It was a patient, professional effort from Park in this one, who took his time finding his range and rhythm before stepping on the gas and getting Siregar out of there before the close of the first round. After backing him into the fence with heavy strikes and chopping low kicks, Park turned a clinch along the fence into a chance to take the fight to the canvas, where he swiftly flattened Siregar out and pounded out the finish.

Clean work for the undefeated flyweight prospect, who advances to the semifinals with a brilliant effort here.

Lee promised a quick finish and delivered in impressive fashion, catching Bin in a belly-down armbar in no time flat. Bin dove on a single leg early in the exchange, but ate a buffet of elbows for his troubles. After dragging Lee to the canvas, the South Korean standout quickly shifted his hips, attacked the arm, and secured the tap.

Just an outstanding performance from JeongYeong Lee, who stamps himself as the favorite in the featherweight competition with that effort.

Level on the scorecards after two, the fight hinged on the third round, and both men were happy to stand in the pocket and bang it out for the first three-plus minutes of the round; no quarter asked, none given. Late in the round, Horiuchi dove on a low ankle pick and worked to the back, controlling the position, but offering little effective offense, sending this one to the judges.

This was the most even, competitive, and entertaining fight of the night, and when the scores were tallied, it was Top Noi Kiwram that came with the clean sweep of the scorecards.

Just a brilliant effort from Nakamura, as the Japanese prospect hit a pair of powerful takedowns when Gusman put himself off balance and out of position. The first produced a pause in the action, as Nakamura was penalized for blows to the back of the head, but he wasted little time putting Gusman back on the canvas and locking up a far-side Americana from side control soon after.

A tremendous effort from the standout wrestler, who looks like a real force in this tournament.

This was one-way offensive traffic throughout, with the unbeaten Swedish prospect Knutsson being economic, yet impactful with her strikes, bloodying Seo in the first and landing damage in each exchange. She shut down any takedown attempts brought forward by the South Korean, controlling the clinch and showing superior physicality in every phase, dominating every interaction.

While she wasn’t able to find a finish, this was still an impressive showing from the Allstars Training Center representative to kick off Episode 3.

Action shifted to the featherweight division in the final bout of the evening, as Chan Sung Jung protégé JunYoung Hong squared off with Satoru Kitaoka student Koyomi Matsushima in the second quarterfinal contest.

Good kicks out of the chute from Hong, mixing it up to the body and inside lead leg, prompting Matsushima to look to grapple momentarily. As Hong defended, the duo reset in the center and opted to get loose with their strikes, the South Korean continuing to attack with kicks and his Japanese counterpart mixing things up a little more.

Midway through the round, Matsushima made a nice read, collecting a kick attempt and closing the distance, leading to a quick clash in close between the two. He used that opportunity to secure a waist lock, and as he broke, Matsushima elevated and connected with a jumping knee in close. Hong took it well and looked to respond, showing his resolve and grit.

Late in the frame, Matsushima pulled the legs out from under Hong, spilling him to the canvas, but he failed to land anything significant from the position before the horn sounded.

Koyomi Matsushima Post-Fight Interview | Road To UFC
/

Sharp outside low kick from Matsushima to start the second round, but Hong quickly fired back with a right hand that straightened up the Japanese fighter, prompting “Drunken Red” to press forward looking to build on his success. Matsushima wisely shifted to grappling, grounding Hong along the fence, scoring with a couple short knees as they got back to their feet, seemingly clearing the cobwebs from that earlier blow.

Back in space, Matsushima cracked home a left hook to the body before driving through a tackle, putting Hong on his butt against the fence. He worked back to his feet without issue, but Mastushima greeted him with punches, and each time Hong returned fire and scored, Matushima smartly looked for a takedown, putting the South Korean on the deck.

A touch of gloves to start the final stanza, which each man showing signs of fatigue, their outputs reduced to individual strikes to start. As they got into it, Hong started to have more success, connecting with good, clean shots, slipping Matsushima to the canvas, only to have the Japanese veteran reverse the position and then rise to his feet.

Road To UFC episode 2 scorecard JunYoung Hong vs Koyomi Matsushima

Seconds later, Matsushima hit a beautiful step-through throw, tossing Hong to the canvas and landing in side control. Hong rolled to all fours and stood, but was quickly returned to the canvas, with Matsushima content to stay sticky around his waist and land short knees while controlling the position.

Down the stretch, Matsushima showed his class, laying in some solid strikes while continuing to control Hong and frequently spill him to the ground.

When the tens and nines were tallied, Matsushima took home a split decision win and a berth in the semifinals.

Former Dana White’s Contender Series contestant Qui Lun looked to have more success in his second attempt to work towards a place on the UFC roster, but Filipino flyweight Wallen Del Rosario was standing in his way, holding the same aspirations.

Patient, technical start to the fight between Lun and Del Rosario, as each worked from distance, looking to find and establish their range, neither landing too much of note through the opening three minutes. Each man were mostly throwing single strikes, with Lun attacking with kicks and Del Rosario individual punches before the Chinese athlete attacked with a combination along the fence.

Those shots opened up a cut and prompted Del Rosario to shoot for a takedown, working hard to finish and end up on Lun’s back, hooks in, for the final minute of the frame. While he wasn’t able to threaten with anything, he should draw confidence from getting the fight to the canvas successfully and landing in a significant control position.

Qiu Lun Post-Fight Interview | Road To UFC
/

Lun came out looking to land to start the second, burying a heavy kick into the midsection of Del Rosario and following it with long, clean strikes from range. The length and range striking of Lun seemed to frustrate Del Rosario more in the second, prompting the Filipino fighter to chase a takedown from too far out, leading to an easy stuff and increased aggression from Lun.

Each time Del Rosario fired or landed, Lun responded with a clean “crack back,” as Laura Sanko called it, continuing to distance himself from the 29-year-old down the stretch in the second round.

Road To UFC episode 2 scorecard Lun vs Del Rosario

Del Rosario came out looking to be more aggressive to start the second, but after he grazed Lun with a side kick, the Chinese fighter responded with a superior effort of his own, earning an acknowledgement from the Filipino. Soon after, a low blow paused the action, but the two resumed after less than a minute break and no penalty for the accidental foul.

Much like in the second, Lun was just the more active, accurate of the two as they remained standing throughout the final stanza. Though he was measured with his output, his bursts were successful and De Rosario couldn’t respond, leading to an obvious victory and a trip to the semifinals for the DWCS contestant Lun.

Lightweights kicked off the tournament action on the second episode of the Road to UFC: Singapore series, with Jeka Saragih putting his tidy two-fight winning streak on the line against 36-year-old veteran Pawan Maan of India.

Saragih throwing heavy kicks right out of the chute, threatening high and stinging Maan low, prompting the Indian veteran to search for the clinch. Saragih elevated Maan and deposited him on the canvas, settling into side control, looking to isolate an arm. Maan was able to avoid the Americana, but gave up his back, prompting Saragih to bury knees into his midsection and maintain control as he rode the hips and controlled the body of Maan.

Late in the round, Saragih started to unload more offence, letting go of his hands and stinging Maan. The veteran took too long clambering to his feet when he had the opportunity, and Saragih made him pay for it, continuing to control the action and score with his hands through to the horn.

Jeka Saragih Post-Interview | Road To UFC
/

Saragih started the second round with an immediate takedown, with Maan landing an elbow to the back of the head off his back, prompting referee Steve Perceval to pause the fight, deduct a point from Maan, and restart the fight in a standing position. Saragih took control again right off the restart, dumping Maan back to the canvas and pummeling him with standing strikes as the Indian hung out in the in-between space on the canvas, trying to coax Saragih into his guard.

Maan tried to attack a kneebar and impose his will on Saragih in the grappling exchanges, but the Indonesia defended seamlessly. The offensive output from each man slowed as the pace of the fight and adrenaline dump that comes with competing on the biggest stage in the sport sunk in, but it was still a dominant frame for Saragih, especially with the point deduction.

Road To UFC episode 2 scorecard Saragih vs Maan

Right out of the gate in the third, Saragih stung Maan and put him on the canvas, but the Indian veteran wore it well, got back to his feet, and went on the offensive. For some reason, the power hitter pressed into the clinch and looked for a takedown on the cage, despite being down on the cards and needing a finish.

As the two clinched midway through the final stanza, Saragih broke the position and stepped through with a picture perfect spinning backfist that landed flush, depositing Maan on the canvas and ending the fight in a flash. Just an absolute crushing blow to bring an end to the contest!

Yi Zha Post-Fight Interview | Road To UFC
/

The opening episode of the season came to a close with a battle in the featherweight division, as Chinese prospect Yi Zha squared off with Japan’s Keisuke Sasu.

It didn’t take long for the main event combatants to get after it, with Yi and Sasu meeting in the center and exchanging attacks 30 seconds in. Yi opted to shift to the clinch, dragging Sasu to the canvas before sweeping the feet out from under the Japanese standout, quickly lacing up a rear-naked choke and securing the tap.

Just a brilliant effort from the highly regarded Chinese prospect Yi Zha to close out the opening episode and advance to the featherweight semifinals.

WonBin Ki Post-Fight Interview | Road To UFC
/

The size difference between the two was stark, with Ki dwarfing Kashimura and looking like the far more physically imposing competitor as they met in the center to start the fight. Kashimura wisely hustled in to close the distance and initiate a series of leg lock attempts, threatening with heel hooks and kneebars that forced Ki to be defensive, limiting the South Korean’s powerful offensive output.

Kashimura looked to complete a flying triangle attempt in the final two minutes of the opening frame, failing to connect and ending up on his back, eating punishing blows from Ki. While he continued hunting for attacks off his back, Ki continued raining down blows, bringing referee Jason Herzog in for a closer look, prompting him to stop the fight.

Excellent job of avoiding danger and finishing when the opportunity presented itself by Ki, who carries a gnarly new scar over his left eye into the next round of the lightweight competition.

Streaking 31-year-old Maimaitituoheti Keremuaili carried a seven-fight winning streak into the competition, where he faced off with surging Japanese prospect Toshiomi Kazama in a highly anticipated bantamweight pairing.

No feeling out process for these two, as Maimaitituoheti glanced with a pair of front kicks up the middle in the opening minute before Kazama grabbed hold of a body lock and turned him to the canvas with force. Maimaitituoheti worked his way back to the fence, but Kazama stayed sticky on top, working to mount while passing the wrist of Maimaitituoheti behind his own back. The veteran defended well, eventually working back to his feet and throwing with urgency in the waning moments of the first.

Toshiomi Kazama Post-Fight Interview | Road To UFC
/

The clash of styles resumed in the second, with Maimaitituoheti looking to throw and land in space and Kazawa giving him as little space as possible, tying him up at every turn while looking to drag the fight to the ground. Maimaitituoheti actually ended up landing in top position as the two spilled to the canvas, only for Kazama to elevate him and kick him off over the top.

Late in the round, Kazama finally connected on a trip, landing in side control and quickly climbing into mount, with Maimaitituoheti defending well through to the horn.

Road To UFC episode 1 scorecard Keremuaili vs Kazama

Maimaitituoheti came out looking to strike to begin the final round, but Kazama was keen on grappling, pulling guard early and working to stay connected to Maimaitituoheti as much as he could. A right hand crashed home from Kazama that seemed to sting Maimaitituoheti, opening the door for another grappling exchange on the canvas, with Kazama showing outstanding control to work around to a back waist lock as the two clambered back to their feet.

Kazama stayed with Maimaitituoheti as he looked to Granby roll, but the veteran continued transitioning, landing in top position. Once more, Kazama elevated him and looked to create transitions and sweeps off his back, with Maimaitituoheti firing off the odd effective shot when he could. Late in the round, Kazama hit another deft sweep, transitioning into side control and creating another scramble that persisted through to the final bell.

This was a tremendously entertaining grappling match and a big win for the 25-year-old from Japan, who advances to the semifinals with the unanimous decision victory.

“Hellboy” Supandhi.

There was more of a feeling out process from the flyweights in the opening tournament bout, as Choi and Supandhi worked to find and establish their range, neither getting too far out ahead of the other through the opening half of the first round. Choi started having more success in the second half of the frame, smashing home a series of heavy inside low kicks and frequently calling on Supandhi to meet him in the pocket and trade.

In the second, Supandhi looked to get the fight to the canvas, shooting from far out, allowing Choi to stuff the takedown and opt to engage on his own terms, climbing into the Indonesian’s guard as he welcomed him to the ground. Over the next four minutes, Choi peppered and pressured, staying busy and landing a variety of short shots from top position while keeping Supandhi from getting anything going off his back.

Knowing he needed a finish, Supandhi closed the distance, looking to pressure Choi to start the third, but the South Korea did well to back him off with clean shots and returned pressure. When Supandhi chased a low ankle pick, Choi spun free and dropped to the canvas in top position, successfully shutting down the hips of “Hellboy” and smashing home short blows as he did in the second.

Supandhi worked to his feet with 90 seconds remaining and threw with urgency, but Choi met him on his terms, stuffed the last-ditched takedown attempts, and cruised to victory and a place in the semifinals of the flyweight tournament.

These two wasted no time getting after it, with Tokkos charging across the cage looking to trade right out of the chute, but Zhang meeting him head-on, stinging him and bloodying him with clean, heavy right hands. Tokkos steadied himself by clinching along the fence, but once the two men broke free, Zhang returned to be the aggressor and landing the heavier shots in space.

Late in the opening stanza, the promising Chinese fighter connected with a series of blows that put Tokkos on the deck, giving the significant underdog a massive upset victory to kick off the opening episode of the season.

Just a beautiful performance and devastating finish from “Mountain Tiger” to push his winning streak to nine.
