When and why did you start training for fighting? When wrestling was over, I needed something else to compete in.

What are your current ranks in martial arts? National champion collegiate wrestler, purple belt in BJJ, national champion in beach wrestling.

What ranks and titles have you held? Titan FC flyweight champion, TUF 24 winner

Who is your favorite fighter and why? “Groovy” Lando Vannata; he’s just unpredictable.

Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? My father. He gave me every opportunity in the world to be successful.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means I can do my passion for a living at the highest level of the sport.

What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? Key fight in my career would have to be my first fight against John Dodson. He was No. 1 in the world and I took the fight on 6 days notice and it changed my life. 

Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? The thing that motivates me the most is my 11-year-old daughter. She’s an only child and she’s everything.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Labette and U of Central Oklahoma, bachelor’s in science and General Studies 

What was your job before you started fighting? Full-time student

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? 1-0 as an amateur

Specific accomplishments in pro competition? I hold a win over Jens Pulver and Josh Rave, who was ranked number eight in the world at 125 pounds.

Favorite grappling technique: Guillotine

Favorite Striking technique: Tomahawk chop

Tell us about your life outside of fighting: Outside of fighting I live a wonderful life with my girlfriend Katie Gilbert and 11-year-old daughter. We have a few properties and a huge garden, lots of chickens and other animals!
