When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training when I was 17. I used to play a lot of sports and I never would finish what I started, and I got into very bad habits of drinking and drugs. One day I was smoking with a friend of mine and he was showing me Nick Diaz fights. I was inspired and decided to try MMA. My original goal was to fight and push through but the main challenge was to stick to it, and once I started, I realized this was the biggest passion I ever had and the rest is history. Fighting saved my life
What ranks and titles have you held? I wasn’t a decorated amateur. I’ve been through a lot of soul searching and adversity and worked extremely hard to turn my career around. At one point I was a 3-4 amateur, and with a “never quit” mentality I have been able to overcome discouraging times and become the fighter I am today.
Do you have any heroes? I have a few guys I look up to that have really inspired me like Max Holloway, Mike Tyson, and the Diaz brothers, who were what got me into fighting.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means everything to me. This is the ultimate goal for anyone that does this. I wanna be a world champion and shake up the world, and I feel I have the charisma the skills, the intensity, and the will to be one of the best.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I didn’t pursue college because I dedicated my life to fighting as soon as I graduated high school.
What was your job before you started fighting? I worked many jobs, from sales offices to construction to plumbing. Pretty much anything to get the bills paid so I could stay afloat and not go homeless.
Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? I had 8 fights and finished with a record of 4-4
