Dana White's Contender Series, Season 8

Episode 1 (8/13/24) Meng lost a three round unanimous decision to Rami Hamed

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s been my dream since watching the first UFC fighter, Zhang Tie Quan, fighting in UFC and even more after Zhang Wei Li won her championship.

When and why did you start training to fight? I started training in Sanda as a teenager and have fought many kickboxing events before switching to MMA.

Specific accomplishments in Pro competition? JCK championship, WLF championship

What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career? My upcoming fight is my key fight. Getting into the UFC is a big deal and I have to win this, as many people are going to be watching especially since this show is in Macau, China. For past fights have to say the fight against Huysenov in A1 was a crucial fight for me to show the American audience that I am an exciting fighter.

Who is your favorite fighter and why? Tough question as there are so many talented fighters. Israel Adesanya, I have watched Israel fight in many events in China and he puts up a very good fight.

Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? Bruce Lee

Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for? I have been helping my coach Bill Eng with Chinatown Overwatch (non-profit) and helping the Asian community in LA. I would like to see more young people learning about their culture, heritage, learning martial arts and empowering themselves.

Beyond a championship and money, what motivates you? Being able to do my best, learning every day to improve my skills.

Did you go to college, if so what degree did you earn? I was enrolled in the Xian Petroleum University and stopped to continue my career in MMA.

Favorite Grappling Technique: D’arce Choke

Favorite Striking Technique: The Sanda sidekick. It’s a very common technique where I am able to kick an opponent starting from about 10 feet away.

Tell us about your life outside of fighting: I enjoy cooking, riding my bicycle, hiking, and reading books on history.

What is one thing that you want UFC fans around the world to know about you? I had a dream of fighting in the UFC and in pursuit of that dream I went to USA and trained with Team Oyama and have met great people that have inspired me, encouraged me. It takes a whole team of people for me to be able to fight in the UFC. A thought became a dream and the dream became reality. I want to thank all the people that has helped me achieve this dream:  Coach Colin Oyama, Ron Turner, Bill Eng and all the athletes/fighters at Team Oyama, 10th Planet BJJ Costa Mesa
