Johnson seeks record-tying win in April bout against Reis

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will get his chance to make history on Apr. 15, as he defends his crown for the 10th time against Wilson Reis. With a win at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri, “Mighty Mouse” will tie Anderson Silva’s record for most successful UFC title defenses.

Also announced for the FOX-televised card is a middleweight showdown between top ten contenders Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Robert Whittaker. In a previously announced bout, Michelle Waterson faces Rose Namajunas. Tickets go on sale on March 10.

The UFC’s first and only flyweight champion, Johnson has defeated the best of the best at 125 pounds, including Joseph Benavidez, John Dodson, Kyoji Horiguchi and Henry Cejudo. Unbeaten for five years, Johnson is intent on cementing his place in the record books with a win over Reis, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who has won three straight, most recently decisioning Ulka Sasaki at UFC 208 last month.

Currently ranked third in the middleweight division, Brazil’s Souza has been making his case for a world title shot in impressive style, with back-to-back finishes of Vitor Belfort and Tim Boetsch moving him closer to the top. But Australia’s Whittaker isn’t far behind, with his current six-fight winning streak including three finishes and four post-fight bonuses.
