UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs Mir main card
Mark Hunt vs Frank Mir
Mark Hunt has made his name on the walk-off knockout, and the Australian did it again in front of his home country at Fight Night Brisbane. Hunt KO’d Frank Mir at 3:01 of the first round after the two spend the majority of the time feeling each other out. Hunt knew immediately the fight was over. As Mir hit the canvas Hunt simply walked away and made a facial impression that showed he was impressed with the punch.

Neil Magny defeats Hector Lombard
Neil Magny survived an unthinkable barrage from Hector Lombard in the first round and came back to earn a TKO win in the third round after just 36 seconds. Magny forced Lombard to empty his gas tank in the first when it seemed the fight may be stopped. Then Magny did the same to Lombard in the second, landing some big ground & pound, but the ref let them keep fighting. Magny finished early in the third.
They said it:
Neil Magny: “I feel great. This is what happens when you surround yourself with great people. I feel like I’ve got all the coaches and training partners I need at Elevation Fight Team. In the first round, I was just thinking about keeping myself safe. I knew he was going to try and go for the finish, but I kept myself protected from heavy shots. I knew when he wore himself out, I could pick up the pace and put him away."

Jake Matthews defeats Johnny Case
Jake Matthews improved to 4-1 in the UFC with a submission win against formerly UFC unbeaten Johnny Case. Matthews finished the fight with a rear naked choke at 4:45 of the third round.
They said it:
Jake Matthews: “I’m absolutely stoked. The whole goal was to go out there and show people what I can actually do. In all my previous fights, they’ve seen maybe 20 per cent of what I’m capable of. My wrestling and jiu-jitsu has always been there, but people hadn’t really seen my striking. I can hang with these guys. I don’t think I’ve completely shown it yet, but I’m getting closer. I wanted to show people that I’m here now. I’m not a rising star, I’m here and ready to take big fights. I think I proved that today."

Daniel Kelly defeats Antonio Carlos Junior
Daniel Kelly finished Antonio Carlos Junior by TKO at 1:36 of the third round after getting his back taken by the BJJ specialist in the first round. Carlos Jr. ran out of gas and Kelly sensed it, picking up the pace in the third and bringing the volume until the finish.
They said it:
Daniel Kelly: “I knew I had to finish him to win the fight. In the first round, I couldn’t get his body triangle unlocked. I remained calm through it. He probably won the second, so I had to finish in the third. As soon as I landed that head kick and he was dazed, I had to pounce and take the opportunity. I knew the ref was going to stop it. I just had to keeping hitting away.”

Steve Bosse defeats James Te Huna
Steve Bosse gave the crowd a thrill, landing a perfect walk off KO punch at 52 seconds of the very first round. Bosse picks up his first UFC win in dramatic fashion.

Steve Bosse: “It’s such a good feeling to deliver a knockout like that in the UFC Octagon. You can now see who the boss is. I’m so happy. I don’t know what’s next, but I know the UFC is coming to Canada in June. For now, I just want to enjoy my win. I hope to be back in the Octagon soon.”

Bec Rawlings defeats Seohee Ham
Bec Rawlings was out-struck 114-70 (total) and 90-53 (sign. strikes), but “Rowdy” still managed to pull off the lopsided unanimous decision win (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).
They said it:
Bec Rawlings: “I’m ecstatic that I got the win. I feel like I went out there and showed my striking skills. We put on a great fight. She’s a really good striker and brought the better out of me. I’m really happy with it. It was really emotional. That’s the first time I’ve cried when I won. After so much time off, it felt like I conquered something. I’m back.”
Seohee Ham: “The fight didn’t go my way. That’s it.”

Alan Jouban defeats Brendan O’Reilly
Alan Jouban landed a pair of right hands to rock Brendan O’Reilly in the FS1 prelims main event before putting him down with a big elbow and a few left hands to stop the fight at 2:15 of Round 1.
They said it:
Alan Jouban: “Coming off a loss in the UFC is tough. I had a lot of momentum before and I lost that. I lost the trust of the UFC fans. I just wanted to come in here and reinstate myself. The fight went well. It really played out how I expected. I felt I was the better striker. I thought he would want to close the distance and put me against the Octagon. Once we got there, I reversed it so I could work my elbows and knees. I predicted a finish by elbow or knee—and that’s what I got. He was hurt and all he could do is bite down and swing. He did a good job of doing that, but I was able to connect my shots.”
Brendan O’Reilly: “I started off feeling good. I was feeling good on the outside and was able to get a takedown from the clinch. I probably stayed in a range he is comfortable with for too long. He landed a nice elbow over the top and it froze me for a moment. So he was able to land a few more strikes and I couldn’t answer. I feel fine, but just made a silly mistake. I was too comfortable where I shouldn’t have been.”

Dan Hooker defeats Mark Eddiva
Dan Hooker collected his ninth first round submission, forcing Mark Eddiva to tap out to a guillotine choke at 1:24. Hooker sunk in the deep choke as Eddiva went for an early takedown that ended up being his downfall.

Dan Hooker: “Mentally, you prepare for a hard fight, but it came out pretty much how I expected. I thought it would be a quick night. I said before the fight that I would be surprised if he made it out of the first round. That’s just the way the fight turned out. I just want to thank all my supporters and fans in New Zealand. You really push me to succeed. When I come in here, I wear New Zealand on my back.”
Mark Eddiva: “He pulled that guillotine and was fortunate to catch me early. I congratulate him for winning the fight. I just need to go back and train more.”

Leslie Smith defeats Rin Nakai
Rin Nakai had her moments in the fights, almost finishing an arm triangle submission attempt in the second round, but Leslie Smith did enough on her feet for 15 minutes to earn unanimous decision win (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).
They said it:
Leslie Smith: “I’m excited about the performance because I stuck to the game plan. It was a different fight than I’ve experienced before. It felt different being in there. I wasn’t throwing crazy, except when I felt like it was the right time. So I feel like I’ve hit the next level. I’m being smart and still using my firepower.”
Rin Nakai: “The game plan was to use my grappling to set up a finish. I managed to use it well early, but then I got tired.”

Viscardi Andrade defeats Rich Walsh
Viscardi Andrade outwrestled Rich Walsh to earn the unanimous decision win (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
They said it:
Viscardi Andrade: “I won, but I’m a little bit disappointed with my performance. I’m not taking away anything from my opponent, because he’s very tough. I prepared myself so much, but I wasn’t even able to show 30 per cent of my abilities. It’s a victory, but I wanted to show more.”
Rich Walsh: “It was a tough fight. I’m obviously disappointed with dropping the decision. I should have gotten off the ground earlier. I got stumped on some of my flurries and couldn’t get going when I wanted. I rocked him a bunch of times and nearly had the fight finished at one point, but that’s just how it goes. Some days everything goes your way and others you just miss your scrambles and wind up on bottom. Unfortunately that’s what happened to me and I paid for it.”

UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs Mir FIGHT PASS prelims
Ross Pearson defeats Chad Laprise
Ross Pearson won a split decision (28-30, 30-27, 29-28) against Chad Laprise in an early fight of the night candidate. Pearson was outstruck in the fight but made good use of his leg kicks and ended up with potentially the bigger blows in the fight.
They said it:
Ross Pearson: “I didn’t train for Chad. He’s very good technically. He’s not the most powerful guy, but he’s good all over. He’s skillful and brings a different style than I’m used to fighting. He fights on the back foot. He’s the first guy I’ve ever beaten that back-pedals. So I’m happy with my performance and how I handled that, especially after my last fight. So it’s just on to bigger and better things now.”
Chad Laprise: “It was definitely an awesome fight. I’ll have to go back and watch it again. I think maybe it should have been a draw. I’m surprised that I lost. It was definitely a fun fight that I took on a week’s notice. I didn’t know much about Ross going in, really. We both just went in there and let it go.”

Alan Patrick defeats Damien Brown
Alan Patrick improved to 3-1 in the UFC with a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26) win against Damien Brown. Patrick landed four takedowns in the fights and out-landed Brown by more than a 2-1 clip in the fight.
They said it:
Alan Patrick: “It was a nice performance. It all went according to plan, but I had a last-minute change in opponent. The height and reach were different from what I prepared for, so I just needed to adjust a few things. But I thought the performance was nice.”
Damien Brown: “It’s pretty easy to explain, really. I cut 29 pounds in the last seven days for an opportunity at my dream, which is to fight for the UFC. I felt like I was better everywhere, but he just really held onto me. What more can I say? He got position and held me down. He tired me out, but he didn’t have anything I couldn’t handle. Maybe if I had six to eight weeks to prepare, things would have been different.”
